Membership FAQ

How can NATM save me time and money?

Navigating the regulations governing reporting requirements and also ensuring compliance can be an incredibly difficult and costly task for an already busy trailer or equipment manufacturer. The NATM Compliance Verification Program not only saves trailer manufacturers time by compiling relevant regulations and conducting on-site inspections every two years, but also by providing ongoing technical support and updating members of any regulatory changes.

Allowing NATM to provide this information saves manufacturers money both by allowing that investment of resources in research and verification to be placed in other operations and by helping to avoid potentially costly fixes to non-compliances and associated fines.
NATM also offers members exclusive industry discounts via the NATM Affinity Programs.

Who can join NATM?

NATM is open to manufacturers of trailers 26,000 lbs. GVWR and below as well as suppliers and service providers within the light-and medium-duty trailer manufacturing industry. You can learn more about our membership here.

What is the cost of a membership with NATM?

Costs vary depending on your company and member type.

For Trailer Manufacturers, membership costs $995 annually, which includes the cost of the compliance consultation. Branch Trailer Manufacturers membership costs $325 annually.

For Suppliers and Service Providers, membership costs $860 annually. Branch Suppliers and Service Providers membership costs $150 annually.

Branch memberships are ONLY for branch locations of existing members. If you have questions regarding this, please contact Assistant Director Meghan Ryan.

When can I start to use my member benefits?

You can take advantage of your NATM membership the moment your application is approved by the Membership Committee. New members can expect to receive their welcome materials in the mail within one week following their accepted application, though many benefits are available electronically immediately.

When is the membership year?

Membership dues run on a calendar year from January through December. New members pay for one full year of dues upon joining with the second year’s dues pro-rated based on the month the company joined to get them on the appropriate calendar year schedule for payment. For example, members joining in July will only pay for 6 months’ worth of dues in the second year and will renew at the full year rate for their third year of membership and beyond.

How do I log into the website?

Once on NATM.com, navigate to Membership menu button from the dropdown click Login: Member Compass. From there, simply enter your username and password to gain access to the members only side of NATM.com. For more information regarding the members only side click here.

When will I receive my renewal notice?

In November, all members will receive a renewal notice in the mail, as well as via email to the main contact or billing contact that NATM has on file. Members are encouraged to pay online using the members-only site. Payments can also be made by sending a check along with the invoice to NATM headquarters to the address listed on the dues statement.

When will a compliance consultant visit my facility?

Within a week of joining, a member of the NATM Compliance staff will reach out via email to discuss scheduling and provide additional documents including policies and procedures, flow charts for the program process, and another copy of the checklist for your review prior to your consultation. Consultations are done on a regional schedule, with the goal of seeing new members within 90 days of their join date. You can read more about the consultation visit process here.

What if I am not yet manufacturing trailers?

Companies intending to begin the manufacture of trailers are encouraged to join NATM. Having access to member benefits, including technical support and the NATM Guidelines as you begin the manufacturing process is an excellent tool to get your company off the ground in accordance with regulation. Further, NATM can walk you through the process of registering with NHTSA and you gain access to additional educational resources, a network of industry peers, and more.

A compliance consultation is not scheduled until a company begins to manufacture trailers.
